CHALLENGE SCOPE

National initiative that is focused on combating climate change, improving quality of life, and protecting the environment

At present, +85 initiatives are being implemented, all representing a huge investment in the green economy.

Since SGI’s inauguration in 2021, the Kingdom’s global commitments have been turned into tangible action and Saudi’s climate action ambitions are on track.

In this challenge the focus will be on the impact of afforestation and Tree counting under (Grow 10 billion trees across Saudi Arabia over the coming decades) Target.

Saudi Green Initiative

The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), launched in 2021 by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is a transformative national effort aimed at combating climate change, enhancing quality of life, and preserving the environment for future generations. As a whole-of-society initiative, SGI unifies sustainability efforts across the Kingdom to accelerate climate action, with ambitious goals to plant 10 billion trees, reduce carbon emissions by 278 MTPA by 2030, and protect 30% of Saudi Arabia’s land and sea by the same year.
